i make art because i have to.
my practice allows me to express myself to others, convey my ideas, and spur dialogues. i thrive in interactions, filled with jokes, quips and running bits, and this is what my art communicates too. i have a fascination with places, people and stories, and the socio-political stage in which those stories take place. my practice is concerned with late state capitalism, class, an art world clouded with fog, and my place in it.
craft paint, googly eyes, pom poms, glitter, cardboard; all things cheap and silly hold a special place in my practice. mass-produced materials take on new meaning in my work. these materials are crafted into unstable sculptures, held up by sheer willpower, gum tape and glitter. the transience and impermanence of my work reflects our fleeting experiences and memories, and rejects our attempts to immortalise ourselves through this practice. yet, the accessible nature of my practice fights against the often impenetrable monetary requirements of this industry, and the bourgeois within.
my work should make you feel something, and if it does, i hope that one day we can have a conversation about such things.
